California....Enjoy the Darkness

With the recent passage of a law in the state of Arizona which aims to encourage the law enforcement officials from that state to enforce the FEDERAL immigration law that was passed by congress and signed into law by a former president, more and more of the most liberal states are encouraging a boycott of Arizona. In my opinion, the ire should be directed at the federal government and THEIR immigration law. If those in this administration despise this law so vehemently, then they need to work to change the federal law instead of demonizing Arizona for taking steps to protect the taxpaying citizens of their state. It is a pretty sad state of affairs when our PRESIDENT goes on the record slandering a law with statements he KNOWS to be untrue!! Of course, his specialties are blaming Bush and demonizing his whipping boy of the day...in this case, the state of Arizona.

One state that has cut nearly all economic ties with the state of Arizona is the bankrupt state of California. This ignorant state has cancelled many contracts with Arizona. However, the one contract that they have no desire to cancel is the contract that allows the citizens of California to use energy that is imported from the state of Arizona!! Well, well, well....kinda interesting don't you think? If this law is so heinous, so bigoted, so HORRIBLE, then I would think the sate of California would cancel their energy deal with Arizona as well. Wonder why they haven't done so??? If AZ is such an evil place, why do they even want to use their evil energy in CA?

One of the main reasons for the dire financial state of affairs in CA is because they are SUPPORTING many illegal immigrants with their public services. These illegals pay no taxes, and much of what they earn is exported to their families still residing in Mexico! Does it seem sensible to allow YOUR state to sink into bankruptcy because the government of your state has no desire to enforce the FEDERAL immigration laws? I sure don't think so. With all this garbage going on, I am happier than ever to live in the poor state of West Virginia. We don't have much of an illegal immigration problem here; there have been a few found, but overall, this issue doesn't even concern most residents here.

This morning, I saw a news item that the state of Arizona is considering CUTTING OFF the power to the state of California. I hope and pray that Arizona follows through with this plan. If those governing California favor illegal immigrants ABOVE working, taxpaying LEGAL residents, let them get their power from MEXICO!! Maybe if CA had an energy contract with Mexico some of the illegals in their state could go home and find a job working in the energy industry. It seems like a marvelous plan to me. Since California favors Mexico and illegal Mexicans residing within our borders, let them deal with Mexico.

Arizona's New Immigration Law

Do you think it is a good idea to punish the residents of Arizona by boycotting their state because they are trying to enforce our federal immigration laws?

  • YES
  • NO
  • Just eliminate our borders completely and the whole issue is moot

Ariziona needs to play the grown-up in this group hissy fit. By cutting of the power they hurt their own citizens who depend on that industry for employment.

Oddly enough California's immigration law also mirrors the federal government's rule just like the Arizona law. They just don't let anyone know what it is I guess.

Where AZ can and should do is cut the power and anything else going to CA. If CA is such a upstanding state and doing so well with all the illegals and gays and all the SAFE cities then they should need no help from AZ much less the rest of the U.S.

I don't like the whole idea of the Safe cities in CA. Nor did I care for how a cop told me I should take my mentally ill child out of their state because they do not want some other states problems. Well I want everyone to boycott CA!

Like most laws concerning immigration, they are toothless and unenforced...just showpieces for their constituencies...Arizona simply put teeth into a federal law and has taken everyone aback !! How dare Arizona to actually enforce federal law..!! That is why no one in the Obama administration is saying they read the bill...to do so would require a detailed explanation of what specifically do they disagree with in the bill...IT'S THE FEDS OWN BILL !!!...Larry

Personally, I will not vacation in California. I will not support the state in any way. If I drank wine, I wouldn't buy California wine. Actually, if our government keeps going the way it's going, I might just learn to like wine. But it won't be from California.

Joni,

The adults here in the USA understand this issue. Poll after poll shows that most Americans support Arizona. It is just the leftists and their media that don't get it!

California is a lawless state. These safe haven cities just encourage more illegals. The bankruptcy is what they deserve for their foolishness.

Unplug them!

I still think if something is done to overturn this, it say our borders are wide open.

Why are we spending money on the border, if we do not kick the illegals out.

Keep on hubbing!

eovery,

You know I support that decision. I agree with you too, why even bother to pretend to care about our borders if you are unwilling to enforce immigration laws.

its simple. becuase Americans have fallen for it in the past. and will, most likely, fall for it again in the future.

funny how most Americans will say Politicians are all liars and theives. till it comes time to vote. then its well my politician is honest.

personally I say turn off their power and let Los Angeles learn a lesson. stop posturing and seeking the illegal vote or stay in the dark.

im no constitutional scholar but isnt LA, and thru it California in violation of Section Ten of the constitution. " impairing the obligation of contracts"

or hold Congress responsible for the violation of article IV section four.

It would Seem that the Govenator cant even control the cities in his own state. he should have stepped in by now and put his foot down, since this idiot Embargo will Hurt LA economically if they actually do it.

not to mention that LA nor any state have the constitutional power to impose an embargo or interfere in another states affairs. Of course the Federal goverment wont step in and say its not your job back to your corner.

I vote no Confidence in the Government.

I have to say, Maven101, is on target in the 10 ring with his comment! I think Arizona should not unplug them, just do what oil companies do when they get fined. total the dollar amount of the contracts lost add 250 percent and hike the fees in that amount and put the money in the coffers of Arizona, and distribute them through customer rebates in the state. Pretty simple. To ice the cake take tour buses with blacked out windows, load them with illegals and bus them to LA county and let them out then drive away!

gary,

If I could affoed it, I would spend my whole summer in AZ. Besides, everybody says it is a "dry heat" and here we only get a humid heat, I'd enjoy checking out AZ.

50,

Welcome back!! I love this comment. I think you are on to great idea here. I bet members of the tea party would even volunteer to drive the busses for the illegals.

Sheri, has it been that long? I took a week and traveled to northern Arizona a did some relaxing, fishing and playing with my Rottweilers on the White River Indian Reservation, unlike "free" America, my dogs were welcome to enjoy the water and camp grounds on the reservation. We had a great time.

I came back and tried catching up on the news and hubs, I have a little better than 100 followers and in return I follow them, so the amount of these hubs that built up was a large pile. I read quickly but, 2 finger type and it seems that I have a fault of typing long replies.

My heart goes out to many of the illegal immigrants as I am the 3rd generation of "Pennsylvania Dutch" immigrants, that does not mean I have "Dutch" lineage as many were German and other nationalities. Mine were Norwegian folks and as things went, my fathers parents were Norwegian and Cherokee. His father was Norwegian. My mothers lineage has never been determined as it went back to the early settlers.

It is safe to say they came here in hopes of a better life. It has been my experience that many of the Illegal Mexican immigrants simply want the same and are willing to do it right.

My thoughts are to build a long series of 5 story unclimbable buildings instead of a fence, across the complete border. Include housing and fresh clean water in the buildings. In military style provide schooling every so often and teach these people who want to come here all it takes, English as a first language, American history, respect for the flag and reading and arithmetic. Those who are young enough let their sponsors be the U.S. Military for a 4 year enlistment. Require all others to have a sponsor and meet the requirements of a south border "Ellis Island". My fathers grand parents made this commitment. It would square away the boarder and educate and control the education of those getting in.

In my heart I love all people and wish for them a fair chance. My only other thought would be to deploy our troops from Afghanistan, here on continental soil and take Mexico over and reshape it to conform to the U.S. standards, leaving the true to country Mexicans broken up states to live in their country of Mexico while reducing the border size to a smaller more negotiable size. Mexican Reservations, heck we did it to the Indians, what is the difference today?

We pay a ton of money out all ready, people, 70 percent, of Americans want that border secure and I understand financially why. Lets come up with a solution that is sustainable and spend money in a way that benefits us, while controlling who and how folks get in, as well as making them fit to have a useful tax paying job, like most Americans do, sans the new age of 30 year olds still living at home working old mom do their laundry and bidding.

That is one solution, what is another besides a fence and shooting the ones that climb it in desperation?, 50

I am completely fed up with all this stupidity. The Arizona law is the Federal law and the federal government has been negligent and should be held accountable for not protecting the citizens of Arizona. I am convinced that we have finally reached the epitome of the dumbing down of America.

SheriSapp profile image

SheriSapp Hub Author 2 years ago

Pop,

One reason for all this manufactured outrage over the law is the BLATANT LIES those in the administration have been telling about the law. I had to explain to my husband that this was NOT a primary enforcement law. The regime is quite good at disseminating inaccurate "facts".

Audacious Shelley 2 years ago

Not every Californian disagrees with the Arizona law. I'm one of them. I understand the anger that outsiders have at the buffoons in California, but please don't punish the just with the unjust. Besides, we'll have a new governor soon and with any luck and more than a snowballs chance in hell, it will be Poizner. He'll try to implement something similar to AZ's law. For the sake of industry in AZ, I ask that you guys fund the politicians in CA who DO support AZ, and WITHDRAW funds from those who DON'T. Money speaks, as we saw with Prop 8. Unless you want to see Mexico taking up your western border as well as your southern border, you need to help the people in CA who WANT to do the right thing.
