Christians, You Had Better Watch Your Own Backs; The PC Police Don't Care

I am a white female nearly 42 years of age. I have resided in the state of my birth, West Virginia, for the majority of my years. However, I did attend a boarding school for two years of high school, and attended college in GA and SC as well as here. I was even lucky enough to visit England years ago. More and more the America that I have known is disappearing. Political correctness is a relatively new phenomenon, but the damage it is doing is substantial!! One must always be mindful of the words one uses rather than the actual meaning (point) of the comments. People would rather argue semantics than substance.

A recent example of this is the firing of journalist Juan Williams by NPR because he DARED to give his honest opinion in a matter regarding the muslims here in the USA. All Juan did was admit that if he sees muslims in their religious clothing boarding a plane he is on, it does make him a bit nervous. I am brave enough to admit that I share his sentiment. Juan is an intelligent guy, and I do not believe he is bigoted at all; unfortunately, the libs focused on his utterance of a remark that THEY considered unwarranted about those of the muslim faith. Mr. Williams NEVER said he thought all muslims are terrorists, he NEVER said they should be forced to dress in the style of most Americans, he only said the very thing that many other non-muslim Americans are also thinking. The MSM and the progressives worked hard to pillory Juan over this incident, but he really came out ahead.

Yesterday, it came out that the editor of the New York Times had made some disparaging remarks about Christians and their beliefs. In fact, he likened Christianity to a belief in aliens. From those on the left, there could be heard nothing but a chorus of crickets. See, in America today, regardless of the Judeo-Christian belief system upon which our nation was founded, it is acceptable to denigrate those of Christian faith. I also heard not a peep from the so-called word police who are oh so quick to point out the prejudice and hate in the smallest comment made by any conservative.

In fact, this editor, and his paper, enthusiastically support the construction of a mosque near the former site of the WTC. Everybody, even us dumb conservatives, realizes that the constitution grants them the right to build where they have the property, money, and permits. HOWEVER, most of the common folks (poll after poll affirmed this) just think that it is insensitive of the muslims to desire a mosque so near to the site where some muslim extremists murdered 3,000 innocent American citizens. Not a word of hate, not a word of untruth, just a fact. There is other land available that is much less controversial, and if the goal of this center is peace and understanding it would be kind of the muslims to respect the wishes of the majority on this one and move the mosque elsewhere. I have no doubt that the same libs who scream about the rights of muslims here in America would never risk their lives by visiting a muslim country to demand the construction of a Christian church. In fact, they don't seem to care at all how Christians in the muslim world are treated. After all, in the lib opinion, Christians are just a freak fringe of society. Mayor Bloomburg in NYC doesn't even want ANY religious folks at the 10 year service at ground zero. I have a suspicion that the majority of the victim families feel differently.

Historically, Muslims have built 'victory mosques' on the site of a great victory over the enemy. This one is no different.

The landing gear from one of the airliners that slammed into the World Trade Center fell through the roof of a building some distance from the WTC site. That building was the one bought by the Muslims as the site of their 911 victory mosque!

Now we learn that they have applied for federal 911 recovery funds to help build their mosque.

Talk about pouring salt into the wound!

Will,

You know I agree with you. Sensitivity?? I teach Spanish, and the muslims conquered and ruled Spain for over 700 years. Then, like today, they had no tolerance for ANY beliefs other than their own.

Thanks for commenting!

The "alien" comment about christianity was disturbing to me and shows with clarity that the word tolerance only swings in favor of the popular people.

When Bachman was interviewed by MSNBC they were making her faith in God comprable to when the son of sam took orders from his neighbors dog to kill people.

onusonus,

I personally am fed up with the lib attitude that one must always be tolerant and accepting of EVERYTHING, of course, except Christianity. They yell and scream when any Christian group does anything in the public eye because THEY can't see anything but intolerance, even when there is none!

Thanks for the hub, SheriSapp.

The vast majority of Christians I know are decent, kind and thoughtful people.

The same is true of the vast majority of Muslims I know.

I start there because I think it is important.

In Canada many years ago there was a massacre of 14 women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. I lived in Edmonton at the time. The suicide note of the killer (Marc Lepine) indicated that feminism ruined his life and although 4 men were injured he was targeting women. Clearly a hate crime against women.

1 year later, there was a candle-light vigil organized in Edmonton as a memorial. I had planned to attend but was refused because I am a man.

Refused participation in an important public memorial only because I share the gender of the perpetrator.

I don't think the reporter should have been fired for saying what he felt or for representing it, (likely correctly) as how other people were feeling.

However, I believe it is wrong to judge anyone for the actions of another simply because they share race, gender, religion, political affiliation, or geographic location. If anything, his comment was an opportunity to address that fear, which is not founded on anything but association. The individual boarding the plane in Muslim robes has every right to do so. He has every right to observe the tenants of his faith. He has done nothing wrong. Committed no crime. The reporter's fear is not rational, even if it is understandable.

This fear needed to be discussed. He discussed it. He shouldn't have been cashiered for it.

But it is wrong to think of that fear as benign. It has an effect. Those who have that fear (worse, those who act on it) are making a judgement on another human being based on their religion. We should at least be discussing why it is felt that this is okay.

This would be the same if I judged someone to be greedy because they were a capitalist, or lazy because they were liberal, or unintelligent because they didn't have a university degree.

The vast majority of Muslims deplore the actions taken on 911.

The vast majority of Christians would not condone the crusades or the inquisition and certainly have difficulties with, say, the KKK.

The vast majority of Republicans are decent people

The vast majority of Democrats are decent people

We should treat everyone with equal respect. Why?

When people treat you negatively because you are a Christian, you are justified in how that makes you feel. You feel that it is wrong. I agree. But then it is just as wrong the other way.

PC should not keep us from discussing, but it didn't just happen for nothing. How we treat others matters. Words matter. Labels matter.

911 was not caused by the Muslim faith. It was caused by terrorists who claimed they were acting on it. rather like Aryan Nations and the KKK believe they are acting on the bible.

I don't agree with the Muslim faith. I also don't agree with the Christian faith. But I would defend to the death your right to be treated respectfully, based on your actions, not on the religion you profess, or the clothes you wear, or your gender.

Just my opinion.

cheers

SheriSapp- Thank you for bringing this important issue to light! Here the phoney tolerance and hypocricisy of the secular left is made clear-thier true aim is to intimidate and silence Christians and Conservatives; while at the same time pretending to be crusaders of tolerance and justice. Thanx for sharing-WBA

wba108,

I have just reached my limit of hearing the left preach tolerance and equality for anyone and everyone NOT Christian or American. IMO, enough is enough!

Hello, Sheri,

This is an excellent and insightful post and you hit all of the nails squarely on their heads.

Yes, when it comes to so-called political correctness, there is a double standard. God forbid if one expresses facts about Jews or Muslims that are not complimentary to those groups.

However, on the other hand, when it comes to publicly making derogatory remarks about Christians, that is entirely acceptable. People do not even get their hands slapped for doing that.

Also, you said, "...I have no doubt that the same libs who scream about the rights of muslims here in America would never risk their lives by visiting a muslim country to demand the construction of a Christian church..."

By making that statement, you showed up liberals for what they are: Not only are they idiotic hypocrites, they are low-down cowards.

feenix,

I have been watching with bemusement the hubbub about Tim Tebow and his faith. This young man has a history of being open about his beliefs, and he hasn't changed anything just to gain publicity. I don't understand the big deal. It makes me chuckle, because the same folks who are hysterical about his praying on the field would scream from the rafters to defend his right to pray if he were only a muslim!

Sheri, this is perfect timing a Christmas approaches to remind all, that we need to fight back against this PC BS.

As always Sheri, an excellent hub.
