Liberal Progressives: Working Hard to Take Your Freedoms and Trashing America Daily
71Here I sit by my keyboard yet again, and I am just as disgusted and disappointed as ever with the direction in which the progressives are trying to drag this nation. We were blessed to have such amazingly thoughtful and intelligent founders as we did, and the constitution they wrote is as alive and needed today as it was in 1776. As much as the libs protest, we are still a nation of laws as well as a nation of INDIVIDUALS! Our founders came here seeking freedoms they had been denied in their homelands, and they created a magnificent experiment where the power is of the people, by the people, and for the people. At least, that is how it has been historically; these days, liberals exhibit an almost visceral hatred of all values and virtues that make us American. I absolutely love our constitution, and I shudder to think what other atrocities the libs would impose upon us all were the document to be cast aside. I really shouldn't be too surprised, during the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama lamented the limits placed upon the powers of the federal government by the constitution. I always find myself thinking of the quote from Jefferson that a government powerful enough to give you all you need is also powerful enough to take those things away. The left fringe of today isn't really about being liberal at all; their concern and focus is on grabbing all the power and control possible FROM the people and placing it firmly within the claws of the federal government. By no stretch of the imagination could the current left philosophy be considered anything other than intrusive and overreaching. Too bad for all us common folk that the libs haven't completed their destruction quite yet.
The constitution spells out in clear terms what the federal government IS and is NOT allowed to do. This simple principle is the most important one, as the founders were concerned about a bloated and intrusive federal government. The health care overhaul rammed down the throats of all Americans by the completely democrat-controlled congress and White House is a prime example of overreach. I pray the law suits are quickly acted upon by the supreme court, or the very nature of our republic will be irrevocably damaged. If the federal government is found to have the ability to FORCE American citizens to purchase insurance or pay fines or serve time in jail, just where in the hell will we ever find the new limits to be placed upon the fed? If we are all forced into one giant insurance "pool", then does that also give the fed the right to monitor your eating habits and prohibit you from buying foods THEY think are bad for us? Can they then make daily exercise a mandate upon the citizens as well? Will they want to have cameras or microphones in our homes in insure we are practicing a healthy lifestyle? Oh, yeah, if that comes to pass, who are the folks who are granted the enormous power to decide what is best for all of us? Will we get to vote for our slave masters, or will the president just appoint them? Perhaps it could be yet another position of czar of something! In the past, it was understood that with the great freedoms we have been granted by God and the constitution, we also have a deep responsibility. What a shame that the libs of today have no confidence whatsoever in the ability of individual citizens to control their own destiny and even make the important choices for themselves. In the event that these individuals make poor decisions, they are then forced to deal with the consequences arising from the choices. Liberals must not have much faith in themselves if they think the government must always be there to help them along and insure that no failure is ever experienced. What happened to the notion that failure is a valuable motivator and a useful tool for personal growth. Do you appreciate a hard earned success more or less if you work to achieve it rather than having it given to you? How can you truly appreciate success if there is never any failure? If I work hard and make the difficult decisions in order to gain success, should my neighbor, who chooses to NOT work EVER also be guaranteed equal success to mine? If this becomes the case, why would any sane individual ever choose to work or achieve if the fed will be there to assure us all of equal outcomes regardless of the input given by each? Our constituion establishes that we are a republic, not a communist state. Remember, it is the mantra of communism...from each according to his ability to each according to his need. The USA under Obama is rapidly striding toward the cliff of a socialist-communist nanny state where there is no freedom, no choice, and no consequence. Frankly, I am worried deeply about what this administration will leave for the next president if they further "transform" this nation into a foreign land.
We have also been a nation where the majority usually decides by voting on a person or an issue. Well, in the America of today, we have judges, who are appointed to their positions, imposing their will on the people and just ignoring that pesky constitution when they disagree with it. A major part of this is in regards to the separation of church and state. The constitution says that congress may not impose a religion on the citizenry. It grants us freedom OF religion, meaning we can make our own choices. However, lately there is a minority of non- Christians who are having their will imposed on the majority of people who do choose to believe in some God. If they choose not to have faith, I have no problem with that at all. My problem is that this small group is infringing upon my freedom TO choose religion by demanding that all mentions of God or faith be eliminated from everywhere. To me, that is the height of being un-American.
A mere two days ago, we commemorated the horrible mass murder committed by 19 devoted jihadists--remember, they were extremists, I wouldn't want to offend anyone by not noting the obvious--and there were remembrances and ceremonies as well as the dedication of monuments and memorials. I watched most of this with tears streaming down my face for the innocent victims who had done no harm to anyone and had done nothing more than go to work in an office or board a plane for a trip. My heart still aches daily for the pain of the survivors and the unimaginable loss they suffered in such a terrifying manner. I was heartened to see the mentions of God and hear the numerous renditions of "Amazing Grace" during these events. I don't recall anybody screaming about separation of church and state there and then. In fact, the socialist president himself said God bless America. I heard more than a few mentions of God and an afterlife. Again, where were the protestors?
In closing, I must at least mention the Godless idiot Paul Krugman and his nasty remarks about the terrorist attacks that forever changed the psyche of America. Rather than show any compassion or decency for the families of the victims, he chose to say how shameful was our response to the murder perpetrated upon us. He is also a loud supporter of the victory mosque planned for a location near the scene of the attack in NYC. I guess if your belief is Islam than he is fine with that, it is only the Christians he despises. I saw a scene from London where some muslim extremists were celebrating the anniversary of our horror, and they were shouting (among other nasty things) "FREEDOM, GO TO HELL". It certainly looks like the progressives here would be right at home in that crowd.

One thing I notice on the liberal side of the fence is that all loss of freedom is ignored and all attention is placed on the emotional aspects of what is going to be received. They are more than willing to trade freedom for programs without a thought; more than willing to give all the power in the world to the federal government without thinking it could ever be misused. With their mind on the prize, they lose sight of the penalty. Once freedoms are taken away, they generally do not return. One thing that I have learned of the federal government is that it is a one way road to nowhere but by the time you figure that out, suddenly there is no way back to where you came from. Socialism in its romantic early stages seems to say that no one will be left out or left behind...all will be included and each time one more sits down at the table, we cut the same pie a little thinner than the last time until others who have been producers around the table begin to see that it is better to go for the free ride and quit working. Soon we are doing more and more with less and less only there's a dwindling supply of money with which to fulfill those promises. That matter nothing to the liberal...just borrow it from someone and get us some more programs...government programs to be specific, those are the best kind. We have finally lived long enough to begin seeing what our forefathers warned us about when they were forming this great land...the insidious internal infestation of socialism coming to the surface. We don't need fundamental change, we really need a reversal of fortune. WB
Sheri,
You hit on many great points but I am particvularly interested in your point of liberals or progressives not being liberal at all. This is so obviously true that in the interest of "Truth in Labeling" they should be called progressive totalitarians.
""Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither."
- Benjamin Franklin
I've long been curious why those who don't like things where they are always try to change them to their own liking. The could just relocate to a place where everything they profess to love is already in place. Just imagine how much time and upset that would save them, and we would all be much happier after they departed.
The political phiosophies seems to be changing. Examples:
Kennedy would be a good Republican now... Reagan would be a Democrat...
Point is, our needs change. Government has proven it is not an efficient, or effect bureacuracy. Private enterprise demostrates the most effective means to meet the needs of the people.
Seems to be a simple observation. Let the people decide for themselves what works. Delete "Obama-care," lower corporate taxes... this alone would bring billions of untaxed dollars parked overseas in cheap tax havens... "home." Warren Buffet is the poster child of Obama, yet he has withheld billions in unpaid taxes pending court litigation... The rich pays most of the taxes.
An example:
The top 1% paid 38.02% of Federal Personal Income Taxes. The top 5% paid 58.72% of Federal Personal Income Taxes. The bottom 50% paid a mere 2.7% of the percentage of Federal Personal Income Tax!
Our corporations are second only to Japan in paying the highest corporate tax....
If it ain't working for you, change it!
I think alot of poeple feel as you do, that if we don't act soon and allow the government to continue to dictate to us from Washington, we will be a post Constitutional nation ruled by those who believe that they're our better's!-Regards,Voted up-WBA
Sheri, you hit on much of what pisses me off. I have no smooth easy going comment when it comes to these issue, I tend to break out in the F-Bombs. Today I'm restraining the urge, you did a fine civil job describing the situation.
Just send me Krugman and I'll treat him to some socialism on my ground.
Peace,
dusty
Sheri -
There is nothing "progressive" about the liberals; they are actually "regressive."
Good write.
All the Best,
Tim
Either these intractable fools on the left expect to lead in a new world order or they have a raging desire to be taken care of from cradle to grave. Either one is frightening. Great writing Sheri. Up and awesome.
Sheri, the only thing I can really add is that it is my opinion and observation that pro(re)gressives do not really care about loss of liberties if it means cradle to grave care by the federal government. Now, that will enrage the Left. But, all their actions are in that direction. Obama certainly doesn't care about infringing on liberties granted us by BoR. His statement of July 25th stating he is tempted to take action on illegal immigration himself, but the U.S. Constitution forbids it. So, what does he do? Barely a month later he defies his own statement by taking an illegal, unconstitutional actions of granting amnesty to over 300K illegal aliens. Not one word from the Left about this infringement on the Constitution. Not..one...word.
Hey Sheri, Just heard about the new web site attackwatch.com! Just doesn't pass the smell test as far as I am concerned. I think this White House is a bit paranoid and of course, we know this President is a bit thin skinned. What's your thoughts?
Statism isn't just plaguing the US but the whole world. It's the status quo. Everyone always thinks that big government is the solution. I'm from the Philippines and let me tel you, big and powerful government here has resulted in nothing but corruption and poverty. And for some reason, it still remains that a lot of people here are social liberals or progressives as compared to being classical liberal or "conservative" in the US sense of being for small and limited government.
May the Americans do the right thing and vote for Ron Paul. I believe that his war against FED and interventionism will make not just the US but the whole world more peaceful and prosperous.
The Progressive movement has always been in lock-step with Fascist ideology...They were enamored with Mussolini in particular...
They believed in the idea that an aristocracy of intellectuals ( self-described ) with degrees from Ivy League schools knew what was best for the American masses...Wilson and his 100,000 " 10 Minute Men " ( they memorized a prepared propaganda speech that was exactly 10 minutes long ) descended on the public across the nation, knocking on doors and making Americans pledge to support Wilson's progressive agenda...He ( Wilson ) incarcerated any and all opponents to his programs, all of which failed miserably...We were told the reason he failed was because he was not " progressive " enough...Much like communists laying the blame for the collapse of the Soviet experiment on not being a " pure " communism...
Another progressive advocate, FDR, formed a million man " army ", much along the lines of the black-shirted Fascisti of Mussolini, that informed on fellow Americans that did not support and buy from Blue Eagle stores and services...Read about the Blue Eagle program forced on Americans by FDR and you will see the true face of a fascist progressive government...
The Big Lie of the 20th Century has always been that progressives achieved everything that people, who were smarter and better looking than them, wouldn't have achieved without them and their social engineers...
Thank you for this instructive and well written expose' of the progressive agenda which threatens our nation once again under the banner of " Change "...Larry
Since 1937, when FDR threatened to "pack" the Supreme Court, unless they voted to allow the Constitutionality of social Security, our whole Republic has been undermined, until finally we have a Communist, British subject in the Oval Office.
My only prayer is that loyal (to America) Democrats will put him on a tight leash.
I noticed that you use a lot of religious phrases in you article, and that you profess to be a christian. Yet you seem to be saying that you don't believe that you have any responsability to do as the bible says. Jesus was pretty serious about giving up all you have to the poor and following him. I also seem to recall the apostles setting up a socialist form of government in the forth chapter of Acts round about chapter 32. As far as the constitution goes in its original form it allowed slavery and even went as far as to have a section on how a slave must be returned to his master if he crossed state lines. do you want to go back to that. the framers were just that, framers. the delivered us a document that was meant to be a begining, not the end. and as far as the economy goes you can that deregulation for it, not the current president. The old saying, "power corrupts and toal power corrupts totaly" was exemplified by wall street and the banks. You need to get your information from other sources than Hannity and Limbaugh.
You say that Jesus was all for helping those who help themselves. Funny, I've been a pastor for nearly thirty years and I have read the bible cover to cover more times than I can count, and yet I have never read that.I don't have a problem with your politics I do have a great problem with your use of the word Christian. A christian does as Christ did and follows the teachings of Christ. Number one of these is Judge not lest you be judged. The reason for this is that only God knows the hearts of men. But here is the real problem, the second command of Jesus is to love thy brother as thyself. included in this is the forgiveness of transgressions and the heartdesire to help even unto your own death. so when you use the word Christian and then proceed to spew hatred and distain I take exception. and by the way if you don't listen to Rush limbaugh how would you know that you agree with him on some things.
I think I remember the "Parable of the Talents" Jesus rewarded the one who multiplied his talents. and toook away the talents from the one who buried his talents.
I think it is a misconception to think that those who work should have to support those who don't/
Now, if it is a case of a handicap, that is a different story. And then there is always tithing. It use to be the Church's role to provide charity, not the state's.

As a 'whiny liberal', I must ask this question (it's in the charter): What about the abuses perpetrated because of the unconstitutional so-called Patriot Act? Krugman, meanwhile, is nothing but a coward, and he would prefer America to be just like him. He wouldn't even allow comments on his inflammatory rhetoric. And why don't you tweet your hubs? but pay no mind to me, i'm merely a 'level 1' commenter.
